Working with files tab in side panel
You can access and manage all files stored in MFT using the Your Files tab in MFT Side Panel.
The following sections explain multiple actions you can perform within the Your Files tab of MFT Side Panel by right-clicking a file or folder.
Sending files or folders
- Right-click a file or folder and click Send.
Outlook will automatically compose an MFT Email with your selected attachments. - Fill in the additional details of your email and click Send.

Viewing files or folders
You can open files directly from the MFT Side Panel in two ways:
- Double-click an individual file or right-click a file and click Open.
Each method automatically saves the file in the Downloads folder and opens it in the appropriate application on your desktop.
Saving files or folders
- To download files or folders directly to the Downloads folder on your desktop, right-click a file or folder, then click Save.
- To choose a specific folder on your desktop for downloading files or folders, right-click a file or folder and then click Save As.
Copying public link
To create a public link directly to the file:
- Click Copy Public Link from your files in the Outlook Side Panel.
- Paste the link created in step 1 directly into a Microsoft Application as a self-contained hyperlink.
Sharing Files or Folders
You can create a direct link to a file or folder on the MFT server using the Share option.
To create a public link, do the following:
- Right-click on a file and select Share.
- A pop-up window opens with the option to create a Public link or a Protected link requiring registration.
You can also share a folder, but only with site users who have permissions to access the folder.
Uploading files or folders
You can add Outlook emails, files, or folders to the MFT Side Panel using the following methods:
All Outlook emails added to MFT via the MFT Side Panel are automatically saved in the Outlook Message Format.
Using drag and drop
To drag and drop Outlook emails, files, or folders to your MFT file system.
- Select the files, folders, or emails you want to upload to MFT and drag them to any folder within the Your Files tab.
- Dragging and dropping content to the side panel will trigger the MFT Transfer Manager to upload the files to the MFT server.
- Once the files are finished transferring, they will auto-populate in the folder where you dropped them.
Using manual upload
To upload file or folder manually, follow these steps:
- Right-click a folder and click either Upload Files or Upload Folders.
- In an Explorer window, navigate to the file(s) or folder you want to upload to the MFT server.
Publishing files for download
Use the Publishing feature to make a file available for download via a Published page.
- You must be a user in the Publishing Users group to get access to this function.
- Once you have submitted your file for publishing, a user belonging to the Publishing Administrators group will need to approve the publishing of the file.
- Right-click on the file and select Publish from the menu.
- In the Send Publishing Request window, select the Collection under which the file is to be published.
Moving Files or Folders in Side Panel
- Right-click a file or folder and click Move.
- The Move Folders and Files window opens. In the folder tree and select the new location where you want to move files or folders.
- After selecting the folder, click Move at the bottom of the window.
Renaming Files or Folders
- Right-click a file or folder and click Rename.
- Type the new name and then press Enter.
Deleting Files or Folders
All files and folders deleted from within folders in the MFT Side Panel will be permanently deleted from the MFT server. You will be asked to confirm if you want to permanently delete files/folders every time you attempt a deletion.
To delete files or folders from the MFT Side Panel, right-click a file or folder and click Delete.
Versions
If your MFT site has versioning enabled, a Versions option appears when you select a versioned file.
Right-click Versions and the Properties window will open. From this view, you can restore previous versions or download previous versions.
Viewing Properties and Activity Stream
You can view the Properties and Activity Stream details of files or folders.
- Right-click the file or folder and click either Properties or Activity Stream.
- A window opens with four tabs for properties: General, Activity Stream, Publishing, and Versions (if versioning is enabled and the file has versions).
Properties
The General tab displays multiple properties of files or folders, such as file type, location on the MFT server, size, date created, author, and last modified date.
Activity Stream
The Activity Stream tab displays operations performed on a particular file or folder, such as internal uploads, downloads, transfers, and deletions Each operation shows the user who performed the action, the date and time, and the IP Address used.
Creating new folder
- Right-click within a folder and select Create new Folder.
- In the Create New Folder window, enter folder name and description.
- Click OK.
Refreshing folder
Right-click a folder and click Refresh to refresh a folder with the latest updates.
Locating Outlook Email Attachments Sent with MFT
When you send file attachments using the MFT for Outlook add-in, the file attachments are automatically stored in your MFT Outbox folder. They are organized by the date they were sent.

Access the Outbox folder directly in the MFT Side Panel in Outlook.
Subfolders by month contain additional subfolders organized by day.

After knowing which day an email was sent with MFT, select the month's folder and then access that day's folder.
The "day" folder contains folders with the email subject for every email sent out. -
To download a copy of the file and view its contents, right-click any file and click Open or Save As .
You also have the option to perform the actions already covered in File and Folder Actions.
You can also access your Outbox folder from MFT Web, MFT Explorer, and MFT mobile apps to locate the files you have sent with the MFT for Outlook add-in.
